Helpful tip: Going over Forever lap sealant later
If you need to apply more Forever lap sealant over a cured bead later (repairs, touch-ups, or another pass), don’t rely on a wipe alone. For the strongest bond, do both of these steps in order:
- Slice the skin. With a sharp, fresh utility blade or a flexible razor scraper, carefully shave off the glossy, sun-exposed top layer. You don’t need to dig deep or gouge the bead — just remove that thin outer skin until the surface looks matte again. Be careful on tight moldings and penetration edges so you don’t nick the roof underneath.
- Wipe with acetone. Slicing leaves crumbs and dust. Give the freshly exposed surface a firm swipe with an acetone-dampened rag to clear loose debris and help neutralize oils that can bleed out.
- Flash and apply. Let it dry about 2 minutes, then tool fresh Forever lap sealant over the prepared area.
Why this matters: weather and UV leave a slick outer film that new sealant doesn’t grab as well. Cutting that thin skin exposes fresh material underneath, and the acetone wipe clears what a wipe alone can’t fully fix. Together, that’s the more reliable prep when you’re going over an old bead.
